A meeting dedicated to the results of 2016 was held at State Migration Service
A meeting devoted to the results of 2016 was held at the State Migration Service with the participation of heads of structural units and subordinating bodies of the Service.
The chief of the State Migration Service, II rank state migration service counselor Firudin Nabiyev delivered reporting speech at the meeting.
He stated that today our republic passes through the decisive period of history in terms of implementation of duties set before the state and society and solution of internal and external policy affairs. 2016 was a year of deep economic reforms in Azerbaijan. The reforms have been successfully carried in the directions of ensuring the economic development dynamics, implementing economic and social programs and realizing grandiose transnational energy and transport projects. Urgent measures have been taken for improving social welfare of population, the international position of our republic has been strengthened, national security and stability has been highly ensured. Yes, even few years ago the provision of sustainable development and security of Azerbaijan made necessary to pursue migration policy complying with the national interests, to improve and develop regulation system of migration processes based on this policy and to coordinate the activities of state authorities in this sphere. The State Migration Service surrounded with the attention and care of the President Ilham Aliyev who turned the necessity to a reality continues to take institutional and organizational measures and carries out important works in the direction of formulating migration policy that meets the modern requirements.
F. Nabiyev drew attention to the regulation of migration processes and protection of migrants’ rights as one of the pressing problems in the modern world.
Nowadays we are witnessing the highest levels of forced displacement recorded since the Second World War. Today 65.3 million people in total have been forcibly displaced from their homelands.
Recent years Azerbaijan which became an attractive country for foreigners turned to a transit and destination country from the country of origin. Today via the unified migration information system the State Migration Service takes full control over entry-exit dates, residential address and workplace of foreigner and stateless person in the country.
Thus, it was revealed via the Unified Migration Information System that during 2016 1 million 143 thousand 951 foreigner and stateless person made 2 million 242 thousand 783 entries to and 1 million 137 thousand 351 foreigner and stateless person made 2 million 242 thousand 788 exits from the territory of the country. During 2016 672 337 foreigner got registered upon place of stay for the period of stay, 51 710 persons were granted relevant residence permits, 9 480 persons of the foreigners applied for carrying out paid labor activity were granted work permits upon the labor migration quota.
68 270 persons’ citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan have been established within the last 5 years.
State Migration Service has launched proceeding on 58 persons’ deprivation from the citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan based on the materials presented by the law enforcement bodies about the involvement in religious extremist and terrorist activities beyond the territories of the Republic, relevant documents were submitted to the court and relevant desisions were made by the court.
The Service Chief emphasized that as the taken measures are of great importance in terms of ensuring the state security, the works in this direction should always be kept under control.
In 2016 7956 persons holding double citizenship have been identified, their names have been added to the relevant database and presently the statistics are being prepared.
During the reported period 95 foreigner (209 persons together with family members) willing to obtain “refugee” status, applied to the State Migration Service. Presently 73 persons among the citizens of the third countries who received refugee status are registered at State Migration Service.
In the framework of the Readmission agreement signed between our country and European Union 120 person, whose citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan have been established according to the notifications sent to State Migration Service, were readmitted in 2016.
During 2016 the works on fighting against illegal migration have been intensified by State Migration Service, the cases concerning the infringement by foreigners and stateless persons of rules for staying and residing on the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan have been revealed and prevented.
The Service Chief F.Nabiyev reminded the President Ilham Aliyev’s concrete instructions regarding the protection of our republic from the impacts of situation existing in the world and the provision of socio-economic development of our republic in 2017 given during the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers dedicated to the results of socio-economic development in 2016 and the duties set forth.
F.Nabiyev stressed the grave responsibilities entrusted to SMS in the regulation of the issue of such an importance and assigned the tasks for fulfilling the duties set forward according to the legislation in time and with higher proficiency. He expressed his assurance that State Migration Service is determined to contribute to the economic development of the country and to implement the duties and responsibilities such as protecting state security and domestic labor market with higher proficiency in 2017 as well.
Relevant decisions were made regarding the discussed issues at the meeting.
