Persons admitted to the citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan took the oath  

Solemn oath ceremony of persons admitted to and restored the citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan was held at State Migration Service on September 14.

At the oath ceremony of the persons admitted to the citizenship with the orders of the President of Azerbaijan it was noted that President Ilham Aliyev who brings forward economic progress and democratization line as an unchangeable formula of national development in accordance with development strategy founded by Great Leader Heydar Aliyev, guaranteed recognition of our republic in positive image at the global arena and transformation to a center of regional and international economic development. Success gained as a result of reforms implemented in the recent years in Azerbaijan, high level provision of stability as an equal subject of the international community, domination of multicultural values, contribution made by our republic which is known as a model of tolerance to the world’s the political, economic and cultural environment were highlighted.

It was brought to attention with concrete facts that as a result of aggression of Armenia against Azerbaijan more than one million of our compatriots become forced migrants at the end of 80s and in the beginning of 90s of the last century, our young independent country coped with this heavy burden on its own and fundamental measures were taken towards improving social, housing and living conditions of those persons.

It was noted that during the past period a number of significant steps have been taken in the field of migration by President Ilham Aliyev as other areas, key measures in the field of both legislation and its application have been realized for the purpose of improving migration management mechanism, managing and regulating migration processes. Especially these factors positively affected year by year increase of the number of persons wiling to live, work, study in Azerbaijan, particularly to become a citizen of our republic, as well as return trends of Azerbaijani citizens who have previously left the republic and gone to other countries.

It was stated that in accordance with the Decree of President of Azerbaijan dated from March 6, 2008 participation of State Migration Service in citizenship issues was provided. As well as determination of person’s affiliation of citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan was specified as direct duty of SMS according to the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated from February 11, 2015.

The works done related to eradication of statelessness cases in our country were highlighted at the meeting. It was emphasized that 1682 persons acquired and restored Azerbaijani citizenship since 2008 until now with the relevant orders of the President of Azerbaijan. Furthermore, within this period 61 473 persons’ affiliation to the citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan was established and they were provided with identification documents of the citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Later on 45 persons who were admitted to the citizenship solemnly took the oath before the National flag by placing their hands on the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan that they will be loyal to the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The oath ceremony is held according to Article 15-1, which was added in the new context to the “Law on Citizenship of the Republic of Azerbaijan” on December 30, 2014.

The citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan taking the oath, signs the text of the oath and this document is kept at State Migration Service.

The ceremony ended with the playing of the National Anthem.
