Experts from Latvia held a meeting at the State Migration Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan

On February 18-22, 2013, 5 day evaluation meetings on migration legislation were organized with participation of experts invited from the Department of Citizenship and Migration Issues of Latvia and the State Border Service of Latvia and employees of Migration Policy and Legal Support Head Department. The main topic of discussion at the meeting was analysis of legal and illegal migration, comparison of migration legislation of both countries and learning practice of Latvia in this field.

Within the framework of 5-day-evaluation meeting information exchange was carried out on both regular and irregular migration in two parallel groups. As well as experts from Latvia visited Detention Center for Illegal Migrants and got acquainted with its condition

It should be noted that, this meeting was held within the framework of Twinning project called “Support to the professional development of the staff of the State Migration Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan” financed by European Union’s European Neighbourhood Partnership Instrument. The main partner of State Migration Service in this project covering 2013-2015 is the Netherlands and the other partner countries are Latvia and Romania.

In general, seminars and meetings on 4 directions - migration legislation, fight against illegal migration, improving training methods for professional development of the employees of State Migration Service and increasing public awareness on migration problems are planned within the framework of the project.
