The 29th meeting of the Council of Heads of Migration Bodies of the participating states of the Commonwealth of Independent States held in Baku
The 29th meeting of the Council of Heads of Migration Bodies (CHMB) of the participating states of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), which serves to strengthen multilateral cooperation in the field of migration across the CIS region and enhance dialogue among the participating countries, has been held in Baku.
Before the meeting, participants visited the grave of National Leader Heydar Aliyev at the Alley of Honor, laying a wreath in front of it. Later on, they paid tribute at the Alley of Martyrs, honoring the courageous sons of the Motherland who sacrificed their lives in the fight for Azerbaijan’s independence and territorial integrity.
The guests also visited Victory Park in Baku, where they received detailed information about the park, which was established to commemorate the heroism demonstrated by our people during the Patriotic War, as well as to honor our historic victory and martyrs.
Later, the meeting commenced. High-ranking delegations from the migration bodies of the Council's member states—the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Belarus, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Russian Federation, the Republic of Tajikistan, and the Republic of Uzbekistan—as well as representatives from the CIS Executive Committee, relevant CIS institutions, the Eurasian Economic Commission, and the Confederation of Common Trade Unions attended the event.
Opening the event with an opening speech, the Chief of the State Migration Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan, II rank state migration service counselor Vusal Huseynov welcomed the guests and spoke about the role of the CHMB, which is a sectoral cooperation body of the CIS, in the development of bilateral and multilateral cooperation in the field of migration, as well as about the mutually beneficial relations of our country with the member states of the Council. Noting Azerbaijan's active participation in the international arena in the field of migration, as in other areas, Vusal Huseynov said that discussions with partner states and international organizations contribute to the promotion of legal migration, the effective use of its potential and the implementation of significant projects in this area. The Chief of the Service emphasized that it is thanks to these measures that our country is the first to be identified as a Champion country by the UN Migration Network for the effective implementation of the Global Compact on Migration in the Southeast, Eastern Europe and Central Asia region.
Providing information about Azerbaijan's migration management model, the Chief of the Service noted that with the liberation of our territories from occupation, new realities have emerged in the field of migration in Azerbaijan and the region, which, in turn, has had a positive impact on migration processes. Vusal Huseynov spoke about the measures taken by our state to return the population to the liberated territories. He noted that there is a mine problem in those areas and Azerbaijan had officially declared humanitarian demining as the 18th national goal of Sustainable Development. At the end of his speech, the Chief of the Service wished success to the event.
Speaking at the event, the representative of the CIS Executive Committee noted that the meetings of the CHMB are an important platform for holding discussions in the field of migration and wished success in the future activities of the Council.
Then, the First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation Andrei Kikot was elected as the new Chairman of the Council of Heads of Migration Bodies of the participating countries of the CIS.
Then, reports were heard on the issues on the agenda of the meeting. Thus, discussions were held on the migration situation, changes in national legislation in the member states of the Council, the state of cooperation with international organizations, exchange of national experience, etc., and relevant decisions were made.

In addition, a visit to the ASAN Service center was organized as part of the event. The guests were thoroughly acquainted with the ASAN Service model and the mechanism for providing public services here.
