Chief of the State Migration Service Vusal Huseynov took part in an online event dedicated to 100 days to the International Migration Review Forum

On the occasion of the 100 days to the International Migration Review Forum, an online event has been held to discuss issues related to the organization of the mentioned Forum on the initiative of Azerbaijan, Luxembourg and Portugal, which joined the “Champion Countries” initiative of the United Nations (UN) Network on Migration with the participation of representatives of government agencies, civil society institutions of the countries included in the UN Economic Commission for Europe, as well as international organizations.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chief of the State Migration Service, II rank state migration service counselor Vusal Huseynov stressed the importance of the event, as well as expressed his satisfaction with the accession of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the "Champion Countries" initiative on the implementation of the "Global Compact on Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration" (Global Compact on Migration). He noted that the current meeting will make an important contribution to the exchange of views on the organization of the International Migration Review Forum to be held in New York in May.

Vusal Huseynov noting that during the pandemic, the activity of the Service was carried out in accordance with the main principles and objectives defined in the “Global Compact on Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration”, informed about the innovations implemented in the migration management of Azerbaijan in order to minimize the impact of COVID-19 on migrants from the first days, to ensure maximum convenience for migrants, to reduce administrative procedures and measures implemented in the direction of promotion of digitalization.

The Chief of the Service underlined that the Regional Training Center on Migration to be established in the Republic of Azerbaijan will play an important role in increasing knowledge and skills in the field of migration in the region, as well as expressed confidence that the Center will contribute to further expanding relations between the countries of the region.

The Chief of the Service said that in order to more effectively implement the principles and goals of the Global Compact on Migration, the efforts of all stakeholders should be combined to make the pledges on various aspects of migration a real success. At the end of his speech, Vusal Huseynov expressed hope that the measures to ensure safe, orderly and regular migration will continue to be successful.

The event was also attended by Anne Godert, Coordinator for International Migration of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Luxembourg, Sonia Pereira, High Commissioner for Migration of Portugal, Renate Held, IOM Regional Director, as well as representatives of the IOM, UNHCR and other renowned organizations, who spoke about the importance of these consultations.
