Chief of the State Migration Service met with the head of the representative office of the International Organization for Migration in Georgia

Chief of the State Migration Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan, II rank state migration service counselor Vusal Huseynov met with Sanja Çelebić Lukovac the head of the representative office of International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Georgia.

Vladimir Gjorgjiev, head of IOM's representative office in Azerbaijan, also participated in the meeting.

Warmly welcoming the guests, the Chief of the Service said that within the framework of close cooperation with the International Organization for Migration, legal migration, efficient management of migration, readmission, voluntary return, migration capacity building , social protection of migrants and other areas, joint activities have been expanded, a number of important projects have been implemented, and at the same time migration He emphasized that the best and innovative practices in the field have been studied.

The Chief of the Service sincerely greeted the guests and stated that within the framework of close cooperation with the International Organization for Migration, joint activities in the fields of legal migration, effective migration management, readmission, voluntary return, migration capacity building, social protection of migrants and other areas have been expanded, a number of important projects have been implemented and best innovative practices in this field have been learned.

Noting that the establishment  of the Regional Training Center on Migration is a pioneering initiative aimed at strengthening the potential of people working in the field of migration in the neighboring states of Azerbaijan, as well as in the countries of Central Asia, the Middle East and the Eastern Partnership, Vusal Huseynov stated  that several trainings at national and regional level have already been organized  together with the IOM.

During the meeting, Chief of the Service also noted that Azerbaijan is the first country to join the "Champion Countries" initiative for implementation of Global Compact launched under the auspices of the UN Network on Migration in Southeast Europe, Eastern Europe and Central Asia, and active work is underway in this context.

Thanking for the warm welcome, Sanja Çelebić Lukovac  highly appreciated the close cooperation of the State Migration Service with the IOM, and expressed confidence that relations will continue to develop on an upward line.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged useful views on the perspectives of future cooperation and other issues of mutual interest in the field of migration.
