A meeting with members of the Public Council under the State Migration Service

A meeting was held with the Heads of the Service and members of the Public Council under the State Migration Service, elected in May 2015 and whose terms of membership expire in accordance with No.816-IVQ Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On Public Participation" dated November 22, 2013, No. 89 Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the application of this Law dated January 16, 2014 and the "Regulations on the Election of the Public Council by Civil Society Institutions", approved by the № 171Decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated May 30, 2014.

At the meeting, Chief of the State Migration Service, II rank migration service counselor Firudin Nabiev drew attention to the importance attached to the activities of the Public Council over the past two years. He emphasized that as the head of state repeatedly stressed, public control plays an important role in increasing the quality of services.

Chief of the Service noted that as a result of attention and care of President Ilham Aliyev a perfect legislation has been formed in the field of migration to ensure implementation of migration policy, management and regulation of migration processes in our country. He noted that there is always a need to improve normative legal acts in accordance with the development of society, and from this point of view a number of innovative proposals presented during the activity period of the Public Council in the  civil society institutions in order to enhance the rights of foreigners and stateless persons in our Republic, to better protect their legitimate interests, to manage and improve migration processes have been used in practice, as well as in law-making.

Speaking extensively about human rights during the meeting, they also discussed the progressive Azerbaijani model of governance in the sphere of migration against the backdrop of inhuman treatment of migrants and helplessness over the issue of migrants in Europe. It was noted that the conditions created in our country for the exercise by foreigners and stateless persons of their rights and freedoms are appreciated not only in the Republic but also by representatives of foreign states and international organizations.

Azer Allahveranov, Chairman of the Public Council under the State Migration Service and members of the Council, noted that the conditions created for their activities, works carried out by the Service to fight against illegal migration and to eradicate statelessness, conducted awareness raising events,  especially the civil forums held in the regions - " Open Days "are welcomed by the society.

Highly appreciating the fruitful cooperation with the Public Council, Chief of the Service noted that he awarded the members of the Council with the Jubilee medal of the Republic of Azerbaijan - "10th anniversary of the State Migration Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan (2007-2017)".

In the end, the members of the Council were presented memorable gifts.
